MLIS ePortfolio

Introduction

I began St. Catherine University’s Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) program in the Fall of 2014. I took classes on a part-time basis for the duration of my degree, and have finally reached the end.

After receiving my Bachelor of Arts in Geography from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, I knew I wanted to continue my education and get a Master’s degree, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study. I took some time to explore my interests and took a few courses as a non-degree seeking student at both the University of Minnesota and at Dakota County Technical College.

At this point, I do not remember how I came across the MLIS program at St. Kate’s, but I do remember instantly knowing that this was the program for me. When I started, I was interested in cataloging, but as I took more classes, the career opportunities I saw kept multiplying. I realized that an MLIS degree could lead to careers I had never thought as possibilities. Between my classes and several internships, I realized I was most interested in the technology and information science aspect of the field.

I learned a great deal throughout my time in the MLIS program, about the library and information science field and about myself. In this ePortfolio you will find some examples of the work I did in my courses.
